09/05/2025 • 5 min readVaporesso has built a strong reputation in the vaping world for creating innovative and high-performing devices, and their Luxe series is a prime example. Two standout refillable pod systems in this lineup are the Vaporesso Luxe XR and the Vaporesso Luxe X.
While they may appear similar, some key differences set them apart, and it is those differences in design to performance and everything in between that we are going to examine today. Let’s get into it.
Visually speaking, both devices look very similar, with their sleek, futuristic design, with transparent panels that showcase Vaporesso’s internal chipset. We’ll cover this in more detail later, but it’s worth mentioning here as it's a shared design element that instantly captures attention when unboxing both devices.
Opening the Luxe XR package, you’ll find:
The Luxe XR is an upgraded version of the Luxe X, featuring replaceable coils instead of built-in pods. The device feels well-balanced, and the ergonomic shape ensures a comfortable grip.
Unboxing the Luxe X, you get:
Upon inspection, a key difference lies in the fact that unlike the Luxe XR, the Luxe X comes with fixed-coil pods, which again, we’ll cover in more detail later on.
One thing that is present in both boxes that isn’t typical of all vape brands is the reminder card, which serves as a quick reference guide to help users understand the differences between the pods. We think this is a great touch, and would be particularly useful for new vapers who want a simple way to get familiar with their device.
Both the Vaporesso Luxe XR and Luxe X share a robust set of features, reflecting their shared lineage and commitment to performance.
The key differences between the two devices are that the Luxe XR features replaceable GTX coils, offering greater flexibility and cost-effectiveness, and the Luxe X uses fixed-coil pods, simplifying maintenance with pre-installed coils.
Both the Vaporesso Luxe XR and Luxe X share an identical form factor, featuring a transparent chassis that gives them a futuristic, high-tech appearance, showcasing Vaporesso’s advanced engineering and the visible AXON chipset.
The devices’ sleek, curved edges provide a comfortable grip, making them feel ergonomic and natural in the hand — almost like holding a smooth pebble. The toughened polycarbonate chassis of both devices has an abrasion-resistant and stain-resistant coating, adding an extra layer of durability against the regular wear and tear that comes with daily use. Despite their sturdy plastic and metal construction, both devices remain lightweight, striking a good balance between sturdiness and portability, even when fully loaded with e-liquid.
Both devices come in a variety of colors to match different personal styles. The Luxe XR is available in Black, Silver, Pink, Gold, Galaxy Red, Galaxy Blue, and Galaxy Purple. Meanwhile, the Luxe X offers options in Pink, Yellow, White, Silver, Grey, Red, Black, Blue, Green, and Purple.
Sticky pods are a common frustration for vapers, and both the Luxe XR and Luxe X address this issue by employing Vaporesso’s SSS Leak-Resistant Technology, ensuring a mess-free experience. For added practicality, a transparent viewing window on both devices allows for easy monitoring of e-liquid levels without pod removal.
Ergonomic comfort and precise airflow control are enhanced by the distinctive duck-billed mouthpiece found on both models. Instead of a traditional airflow control, both devices make use of an efficient 180-degree pod rotation system. Rotating the raised platform on the pod alters the airflow, providing users with either a restricted or unrestricted draw. The included pods are clearly differentiated: the MTL pod features a more restrictive mouthpiece, while the RDL pod visibly offers increased airflow, but vaping style indications are also printed on the sides of each pod for easy identification.
The Luxe XR uses refillable pods with Vaporesso’s celebrated GTX coils, offering users the flexibility to switch coils without replacing the entire pod. This not only provides diverse resistance options but also reduces waste and long-term costs. The Luxe XR supports a range of GTX mesh coils, including 0.4Ω, 0.6Ω, 0.8Ω, and 1.2Ω, allowing for a tailored vaping experience.
In contrast, the Luxe X uses fixed-coil pods, where the coil is integrated into the pod. While this simplifies maintenance by eliminating coil changes, it limits how much you can customise your experience. However, users can still adjust airflow via the 180-degree pod rotation.
All Vaporesso Luxe X Pods, equipped with COREX heating technology, employ a unique morph-mesh structure for rapid and even heating, combined with cumulus microfibre cotton for enhanced e-liquid saturation and absorption. This technology aims to improve vaporisation efficiency by 50%, resulting in enhanced flavour accuracy, a smoother, more flavourful vaping experience, and a 50% extended lifespan.
Notably, the fixed-coil pods from the Luxe X are fully compatible with the Luxe XR, allowing users to seamlessly switch between configurations for experimentation or upgrades.
Both the Luxe XR and Luxe X come equipped with a 1500mAh internal battery, providing ample power for a full day of vaping under normal use. Since both devices share the same battery capacity, their overall longevity is nearly identical, but actual performance depends on usage habits, coil resistance, and wattage output.
As you may expect, lower-resistance coils drain the battery faster due to higher power consumption, whereas higher-resistance coils extend battery life by using less power per puff.
To help users keep track of battery levels, both devices feature a simple LED battery indicator system. Three LEDs indicate 60-100% charge, two LEDs show 30-60%, and one LED means the battery is below 30%. This system makes it easy to monitor battery life at a glance, ensuring you’re never caught off guard.
Both devices support Type-C fast charging, taking under an hour for a full recharge, with a 1.5A charge rate for faster power replenishment. Vaporesso’s smart power management ensures consistent performance throughout the battery cycle, minimising power drop-off as the battery depletes.
The bad news is that in the case of both devices, the charging port is located on the bottom, meaning that you’ll need to lay them flat while charging rather than standing them upright. The good news, however, is that they both support pass-through charging, allowing you to continue vaping while the device is plugged in - particularly useful if you're in the middle of a session and don’t want to wait for a full charge.
Unlike some pod systems that offer auto-draw functionality, neither the Luxe XR nor the Luxe X support auto-draw activation. Instead, both devices require the user to press the fire button to vape. This deliberate design ensures users maintain full control over their vape, preventing accidental activation.
Both devices deliver a consistent and smooth draw, with the AXON chipset ensuring stable power output throughout each puff. The COREX heating technology shines, producing dense, flavour-intense vapour that accurately represents the e-liquid's profile. The adjustable airflow allows users to fine-tune the draw to their preference, from a tight, flavourful MTL experience to a more airy RDL vape. The Luxe XR, with its greater coil selection, provides a wider range of vaping experiences, from intense flavour production with lower resistance coils to extended battery life and subtler vapour with higher resistance options.

The Luxe XR, being the more advanced of the two devices, includes multiple built-in protections, such as overcharge prevention (stopping power input at 100% battery), short circuit detection, and low resistance warnings. If vaping exceeds 8 seconds, the LED will gently flash three times before automatically cutting off power.
The AXON Smart Chipset not only provides essential safety protections but also simplifies the vaping process. By automatically detecting the coil resistance and adjusting the wattage, it eliminates the guesswork and ensures optimal performance, even for beginner vapers. This intelligent system allows users to focus on enjoying their vape without worrying about technical adjustments.
The magnetic pod connection ensures a secure and effortless pod installation and removal process, allowing for quick and convenient coil or pod changes. Refilling the pods is a straightforward process, too, thanks to the convenient fill port located on the side of the pod. This design minimises mess and makes refilling quick and efficient.
Both the Vaporesso Luxe XR and Luxe X stand out as exceptional pod systems, embodying Vaporesso's commitment to innovation and quality. Ultimately, the choice between them will boil down to your own vaping preferences.
Regardless of your choice, you'll be getting a reliable, high-performing pod system that delivers excellent flavour and vapour production. Vaporesso has once again proven that they are a force to be reckoned with in the vaping world!
